Design based on a story

My Role:

Inspired by a short story of human interaction, HVDC is a place that offers the community
with culture-oriented social events in which teach people more about other races around the world.

It started with a story…

The short fictional story named "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" is an illustration of human nature, through metaphors that resemble how we deal with new situations.  The story reflects on the negative response of humans when confronted with something different, and how quickly one can be ignorant towards anything out of the norm.

The story made me think of racism, and how much better the world could be without it.  I realized that culture education is not given its proper value in schools, and there should be more a place that easily offers such enlightenment to the community.

This was my inspiration for the HVDC, the place that gathers the community with culture-oriented social events that teach people and open their minds to other races.

Hand-Drafted Architectural Drawings

As a disciplinary excercise, everything for this project was drawn by hand.  This was essential in my early architecture experience, in order to understand and retain basic drafting concepts.  Drafting by hand ultimately allowed me to later become skilled at computer drafting, and using software more intuitively.

Diagramming is the crown jewel of visual thinking

As a communication tool, diagramming allowed me to explore the program's relationships quickly and directly.  As a design tool, it helped reviewers understand the bigger picture as they dove into
the details.

Physical Models

The mock up is essential for effective visualization of the project within its context, picturing the internal relationships within the structure, as well as understanding the transitions between the interior and exterior environments.
